if we burn fat based on heart rate, does that mean in theory we don’t need to be active at all..?

we just need to stimulate our hearts, so we could watch a scary movie for 20mins or go on an ongoing rollercoaster as long as we can keep our hearts racing in the aerobic zone we’ll be burning calories, right?

Right, yes you will burn fat by doing nothing other than your usual things but if you want to burn more fat and more calories that you are taking in then you need to do more. Giving yourself a fright may well burn a couple more calories but this would be down to maybe the enegry you used when you jumped with fright in the middle of the film. If you are eating 2500 calories in a day then that 1 isn’t going to make much difference. The only way you would lose weight would be to barelynot eat at all and that is not healthy and not clever.

Fat burn isn’t based on heart rate perse. Guidlines state that an average mans intake of fat can be upto 90g. That would be based on them getting a 30 minute walk a day to burn some of that up. If you eat less fat and calories than the recommended amounts then you will slowly lose weight but probably not very much. Otherwise if you exercise regularly doing more than the minimum then you will burn more calories and fat.
